Terms of Service

Effective: May 19, 2026 · Last updated: May 19, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a legal agreement between you and Yuni and govern your use of the Yuni service, our websites at getyuni.com and yunidating.com, our SMS / iMessage delivery channel, and any related services (the "Service").

By creating a profile, texting the Yuni number, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Yuni is operated from Ontario, Canada. The Service is intended exclusively for adult students enrolled at supported Canadian universities.

1. Eligibility

To use the Service, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old;
  • be a current student, recent graduate, or member of a supported Canadian university community whose email belongs to a supported university domain;
  • have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement in the jurisdiction in which you reside; and
  • not be barred from using the Service under applicable law or under our prior decision to suspend or terminate your account.

You represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years of age. Yuni is for adults. If we have reason to believe you are under 18, we will remove your access immediately.

2. Your Account

You are responsible for:

  • providing accurate, current, and complete information about yourself;
  • keeping your phone (your means of access) reasonably secure;
  • all activity that occurs in your name on the Service, including SMS / iMessage replies sent from the phone number on file.

Notify us at [email protected] of any unauthorized use. We may suspend or terminate accounts that contain false, misleading, or impersonated information.

3. License to Use the Service

Subject to these Terms, Yuni grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use. There is no Yuni mobile application to install.

You agree NOT to:

  • copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, or sublicense any part of the Service;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code, except as expressly permitted by law;
  • access the Service through any automated means (bots, scrapers) or use it to scrape or harvest other users' data;
  • introduce malware, exploits, or any code designed to harm the Service or its users;
  • interfere with the integrity, security, or performance of the Service;
  • abuse the SMS channel (mass-replying, spamming the Yuni number, trying to extract another user's phone number, or using Yuni messages to send onward commercial solicitations).

4. Identity and Photo Verification

To keep the community safe, Yuni may require you to verify your university email by entering a one-time code, verify your phone number via SMS one-time code, and upload photos that meet our quality and content rules.

Our AI tools check uploaded photos for quality and content (no nudity, no minors, no obviously fraudulent or generated images) and for the presence of a visible face on your lead photo. As described in our Privacy Policy, our current production flow does not use biometric identification. We may reject photos at our discretion.

5. Acceptable Use and Community Guidelines

When using the Service, you agree NOT to:

  • harass, threaten, stalk, defame, or intimidate any user, on Yuni surfaces or in messages with a person we introduced you to;
  • post or share content that is hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise unlawful;
  • impersonate another person, create accounts on behalf of someone else, or operate multiple accounts;
  • upload photos of anyone other than yourself, photos of minors, or images generated or edited to mislead about your identity or appearance;
  • request, share, or solicit money, financial information, intimate images, or other personal favors from other users;
  • use the Service for any commercial purpose, including advertising, recruiting, marketing, escort services, or other paid arrangements;
  • share another user's personal contact information without their consent;
  • attempt to circumvent matching, blocking, reporting, opt-out, or moderation controls;
  • engage in any conduct that violates applicable law, including Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation.

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour. Report any user, message, or content by emailing [email protected]. We aim to review and act within 24 hours.

6. User Content

"User Content" means anything you submit to the Service, including profile photos, intake answers, SMS / iMessage replies you send to Yuni, reports, and feedback.

  • You retain ownership of your User Content.
  • You grant Yuni a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to host, store, reproduce, display, adapt, process through AI tools as described in our Privacy Policy, distribute to your matched user as part of the introduction, and otherwise use your User Content to provide and improve the Service. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backups, anonymized analytics, and content already delivered to your match.
  • You represent and warrant that you own or have the right to share your User Content and that it complies with these Terms.
  • We may remove or refuse any User Content with or without notice.

7. Reporting and Safety

Report objectionable content or abusive users by emailing [email protected]. You can also ask us to block a specific user from being matched with you again.

If you feel unsafe or believe a crime has occurred, contact local emergency services and then notify us at [email protected].

8. Introductions and In-Person Meetings

Yuni curates 1-on-1 introductions between verified Canadian university students, but meeting in person is your decision. We do not perform criminal background checks. We do not guarantee the identity, age, or behaviour of any user. You are solely responsible for your interactions with the people we introduce you to.

Stay safe: meet in public places, tell a friend where you are going, do not share financial information, and trust your instincts.

9. SMS / iMessage Communications (CASL Disclosure)

By providing your phone number and using the Service, you consent to receive recurring automated SMS / iMessage communications from Yuni at the number you texted us from, including onboarding messages, verification codes, the Wednesday Drop, scheduling reminders, post-date feedback prompts, and account messages.

Approximately 1-5 messages per week, sometimes more during active scheduling. Message and data rates may apply from your carrier.

  • Reply STOP to unsubscribe; we process opt-out immediately, and in any case within ten business days. Opting out ends your active matching cycle.
  • Reply HELP for help, or email [email protected].
  • Reply DELETE to request full deletion of your account.
  • Reply START after opting out to come back.

Yuni is not responsible for the content of messages exchanged between you and a person we introduce you to once the introduction has been made.

10. Matching and Curation

Yuni decides who you are introduced to. Matching is driven by an automated compatibility pipeline. The Yuni team may also, at its sole discretion, review, adjust, override, or set aside any output of that pipeline, and may select, propose, withhold, decline, or make any introduction itself using its own judgment.

Matchmaking is an inherently subjective, editorial exercise. No user is entitled to be matched with any particular person, to receive a match in any given cycle, or to a minimum number of matches, and Yuni may propose one or more matches to you in a cycle and introduce you to more than one person. A decision to introduce you, or not to introduce you, to another user is a discretionary curatorial decision of the Yuni team. Yuni is not required to disclose, explain, justify, or defend the reasoning behind any individual match or non-match, and its matching decisions are final.

Where a match is produced solely by automated processing, Quebec Law 25 section 12.1 and analogous transparency laws give you the right to be informed of that fact and to request a human review. Those rights, the principal factors used, and how to exercise them are described in detail in Section 9 of our Privacy Policy. You may request a human review by replying REVIEW to your Wednesday Drop or emailing [email protected]. Nothing in this section limits any privacy, consumer-protection, human rights, or other right you cannot waive by contract.

11. Intellectual Property

The Yuni name, logo, and all related marks are trademarks of Yuni. All rights, title, and interest in the Service (excluding User Content) are owned by Yuni or its licensors. You may not use our branding without our prior written permission. If you submit feedback, you grant Yuni a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use it.

12. Termination

  • By you: stop using the Service at any time. Reply DELETE to any Yuni text, or email [email protected] from the address associated with your account.
  • By us: we may suspend or terminate your account at our discretion, with or without notice, if we believe you violated these Terms, applicable law, or our community guidelines, or if doing so is necessary to protect the Service or other users.
  • Soft deletion: your profile is hidden and you are removed from active matching. Personal data is then handled per our Privacy Policy.
  • Effect of termination: sections that by their nature should survive (User Content licence for delivered content, IP, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, dispute resolution) will survive.

13. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

YUNI DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS, BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, THAT YOU WILL FIND A COMPATIBLE MATCH, THAT ANY USER IS WHO THEY CLAIM TO BE, OR THAT IN-PERSON MEETINGS WILL BE SAFE OR SUCCESSFUL.

14. Limitation of Liability

Please read this section carefully — it limits the amount you can recover from Yuni.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Yuni and its directors, officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including loss of profits, goodwill, use, data, or other intangibles.

Yuni's total cumulative liability arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you have paid to Yuni in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to liability or (b) one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $100).

These limits do NOT apply to:

  • bodily injury;
  • moral injury (in Quebec);
  • liability that cannot be excluded by law, including intentional or gross fault, fraud, or willful misconduct;
  • non-waivable statutory rights, including under Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002 and Quebec's Consumer Protection Act;
  • rights granted by PIPEDA, Quebec Law 25, the GDPR, or analogous privacy or consumer-protection laws.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations; some of the limits above may not apply to you.

15. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Yuni and its directors, officers, employees, and agents from any claim, loss, liability, demand, damage, cost, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your User Content, your violation of these Terms or any law, or your violation of any third party's rights. This indemnity does not apply where prohibited by law, including to the extent caused by Yuni's intentional or gross fault.

16. Quebec Residents

These Terms are a contract of adhesion under Quebec law. To the extent any provision is inconsistent with the Civil Code of Québec (in particular articles 1437, 1474, and 1475) or the Quebec Consumer Protection Act, that provision does not apply to you and the rest of these Terms remain in force.

Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under Quebec law. A French-language version of these Terms and of our Privacy Policy is available on request and will be provided by default to Quebec users at the time of our Quebec launch.

17. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Subject to applicable consumer-protection laws and to the rights of Quebec residents under article 3149 of the Civil Code of Québec, you and Yuni agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Toronto, Ontario for any dispute that cannot be resolved informally.

Contact us first at [email protected] so we can try to resolve any concern without formal proceedings.

18. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you by email or SMS of material changes and update the "Last Updated" date. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
